Keepers of the Arches
Each year, two new Keepers-of-the-Arches are selected from last years’ graduation class. These two join the two from each of the previous three classes to stand on either side of the four arches positioned between the Golden Gate and the Hall of Philosophy at the Recognition Day ceremony to safely see the new graduates up the path to the Hall in the Grove. The newly selected two from last years’ class are stationed at the first arch–the History arch. The two from the next youngest class stand on either side of the second–or Literature–arch. Those from the third oldest class line either side of the third–Science–arch. After three years of keeping the arches the final assignment is at the arch closest to the Hall of Philosophy–the Faith arch.
The appointment/election to be a Keeper-of-the-Arches is a lifetime selection. Once your four years of identified responsibility is completed, you remain forever a member of the Society of the Keepers-of-the-Arches. In the case that some member with current responsibility is unable to perform, you may be called upon to fill in.
The Keepers-of-the-Arches are traditionally dressed in white, but are distinguished from the graduating class–also in white–by a pendant with a colorful ribbon worn by each Keeper. They march in the Parade with the Honorary Grand Marshall, accompany him/her from graduation to the Amphitheatre for the morning lecture (dedicated to the class) and then to the luncheon for the graduating class. The Alumni Association pays for the lunches of the Grand Marshall and the working Keepers (1+8)

New/Old Diplomas
If you wish to acquire a New/Old Diploma (the larger, victorian variety awarded to graduating classes of 2008 and subsequent years), just give your name (as you want it to appear on the diploma), class year, and check for $25 (made out to the Alumni Assn) to the front desk at Alumni Hall. These are now produced once per year in the spring and are ready for pick up during the following season.
Post-Graduate Degrees
Please be reminded that your list of completed books must be into Peg Snyder at the Veranda by July 1 of the year that you would like to be recognized on that years Recognition Day (Wednesday following the first Tuesday of August). If you qualify to purchase a stole for the post-graduate patches, you can give your $25 check made out to the CLSC Alumni Assn to Peg at the same time. She will have at the Veranda both the new stoles and the patches that you may need. Also, all seals for your diploma are available at the Veranda. Please make certain to pay dues to the Alumni Assn–either Annual or Life Member. That supports the organization that facilitates the stoles and provides the patches.
