The frame for the Golden Gate is undergoing a total renewal. The project, sponsored by the CLSC Class of 2000, is well underway and once completed (likely this fall) should last for well over 100 years. The uprights have a core of steel imbedded in a concrete base. The visible ‘wooden’ structure is made of that new composite wood that looks like, handles like, receives paint like, but does not rot or warp like real wood. The shape will be returned to the original shape with tapered columns and a somewhat more ornate crown. It will be gorgeous.
2012 will be the first year that graduates will pass through this new structure. If you know of anyone contemplating graduating from the CLSC in the near future, mention to them this unique opportunity of being a member of the first class to use it. And, if they are under 40, will possibly someday be able to look back 50 or more years to when his or her class was the first one to pass through this new structure. What a memory!
