Recognition Week Events

Recognition Week, held during Week Six in 2026 (August 2 - 8), is the highlight of the Chautauqua season for those who are affiliated with the CLSC.
Sunday, a morning Baccalaureate Service in the Amp and an evening Vigil Service in the Hall of Philosophy is held for the incoming class. Following the Vigil, the graduating class and alumni are treated to a cookie and punch reception in Alumni Hall.
Tuesday is for those alumni who have entered the Guild of Seven Seals. A reception is held at Alumni Hall for those who are moving into the Guild or moving up to a new guild level. Each name is read and recognized, and a cake and punch reception follows.
Wednesday is Recognition Day. The day starts with a parade from Bestor Plaza. The parade includes a band, grand marshal, Gate Keepers, Archkeepers and prior classes parading behind their class banners. It’s a colorful and highly visible event. The parade ends in the Literary Arts Grove, as alumni begin to assemble in the Hall of Philosophy for the Recognition Day ceremony.
Following the ceremony, alumni assemble into their classes again and parade along the lakeshore to the Amphitheater where the new class is welcomed and cheered on as they enter the Amp for the morning lecture.
Thursday evening is reserved for the Alumni Gala. For the past two years, this event has been held at the Athenaeum, allowing guests to enjoy lakefront views from the porch, the music of a stringed quartet, and a sumptuous buffet as they visit with fellow alumni.
